Study in British Columbia University as an International student

Interested in pursuing your studies at British Columbia University? You’re not the only one.

University of British Columbia’s research ranks in the global top 10 in multiple subjects and is hugely popular for students around the world.

Because it is one of the more prestigious universities in Canada, UBC has an intense application process. The university has a rigorous acceptance process and can be harder to get into.

For example, out of the 41,875 applications UBC received in 2020, only 54 % received an acceptance in their preferred program. University of British Columbia’s acceptance rate for international students is about 44%.

UBC may be harder to get in, but if you have good grades it’s not impossible.

Application Process

The first step in the application process is choosing what your degree will be. What do you want to study? The University of British Columbia offers a wide range of courses to prepare you for any type of career.

Review the general and program-specific admission requirements. For international students, the requirements will vary depending on your home country.

Create or log in to your UBC account to start your application. The online application opens in early September. As part of the process, you will need to write a personal essay to introduce yourself and to highlight your achievements and experiences.

After you complete your application, pay the fees ($120.75 for international students), hit submit and wait for an answer. Once accepted, you’ll need to apply for the necessary study permits and visas.

Tuition Fees and Scholarships

Tuition fees are understandably much higher for international students. At UBC tuition fees are based on the program of study. Depending on your degree, yearly tuition can range from $38,000 to $54,000.

Keep in mind you will need to account for additional expenses such as rent, food, utilities etc.

When you add everything up, a four-year program can become quite expensive. However, in recognition of the academic achievements of talented students, UBC gives out approximately $30 million in scholarships to international students every year to help alleviate some of the financial burdens.

Given its impressive reputation, it comes as no surprise that UBC is such a sought-after university.

Vancouver Campus

British Columbia University

The Vancouver campus of UBC is located at the western tip of the Point Grey Peninsula in the city of Vancouver in British Columbia, and it is only a 30 minutes drive from downtown Toronto.

The campus has been located on this site for most of its 100-year history, a location that is the traditional territory of the Musqueam people.

The Vancouver campus boasts a rich history that spans over a century, and it is known for research and innovation. It is home to more than 44,000 undergraduate and nearly 10,000 graduate students.

In addition, the school has two other facilities for learning, one in the heart of downtown Vancouver at Robson Square and another at the Centre for Digital Media.

As a top-ranked research university, the Vancouver campus is home to some outstanding facilities including UBC Welcome centre, TRIUMF, UBC Library, The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, Museum of Anthropology, The Beaty Biodiversity Museum, UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research, The UBC Farm, Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre, and Nitobe Memorial Garden.

Okanagan Campus

The Okanagan campus lies in the Okanagan Valley, an area widely known for its natural beauty and wineries.
