Now that you know you want to immigrate to Canada as a web developer; you have a few immigration programs to choose from.

British Columbia PNP Tech Pilot

Vancouver, B.C. is one of Canada’s tech hubs and the province is facing a significant shortage in its labour market needs. As a way of attracting foreign talent to fill jobs in the tech industry, every two weeks B.C. holds a Tech draw for individuals with tech experience. The Tech draw is a stream under the BC PNP

If you want to live in B.C. this is one of the quickest and most efficient ways of getting immigration to Canada as a web developer.

Express Entry System

This system is another efficient way of coming into Canada as a web developer. Express Entry manages applications from three different programs; Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program. If you get selected through the Express Entry pool, you can settle anywhere in Canada.

Immigration from Other English-Speaking Countries

If you’re a web developer living in any of these three English-speaking first-world countries, your immigration process will likely be simpler since the language, culture and educational standards are very similar.

Whether you’re applying through Express Entry or a through a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), you will score well on requirements involving language proficiency and education. Shared cultures also make it easier to network and find a job, especially if the company you are currently working for happens to have offices or ties to businesses in Canada.

The requirements on how to become a web developer in Canada from another country may vary based on the company you’re working for and the type of work you will do. The most important piece is demonstrating that you have solid work experience as a web developer. Depending on your situation, it could be very easy for you to immigrate to Canada.

Canada is no exception.

Are Web Developers in Demand in Canada?

As the country emerges from the pandemic and looks towards the future, the IT industry is going through a resurgence. In fact, after Japan and the United States, Canada has the largest IT industry in the world.

Given this, it’s no surprise that web developers are some of the most in-demand skilled workers and have been added to the National Occupation Classification (NOC) list.

As a web developer, you can go anywhere in the world, so why choose Canada?

Because Canada offers a far superior quality of life than nearly any other country. Each one of Canada’s provinces offers something different and unique and employers pride themselves on providing a healthy work-life balance.

In addition to the obvious benefits of living in a safe, clean, first-world nation, web developers in Canada can make a lot of money. While entry-level positions begin at $40,000 within a few years you could be making well over $100,000! Not to mention additional perks offered by whatever company you work for.

If you are a self-taught programmer without a formal education, don’t despair.

If you score well on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) you can still be selected. Some employers don’t need a degree requirement while others do. Once you’re in Canada, you can get a certification from a post-secondary institution.

A web developer’s job description can include any of the following:

·  Consulting with clients or management in order to understand web needs and discuss design plan;

·  Collaborating with team members to determine the site’s content, design and layout;

·  Write code;

·  Create and test applications for the website;

If someone wants to become a web developer in Canada, they will need a formal education. Typically, a bachelor’s degree, in computer science, communications or business. College diploma or programs in graphic arts, web design or computer science are also excellent paths to take.

One of the neat things about being a web developer is that it can be self-taught. So if this is a field that is interesting, it’s possible to learn things by watching videos and reading on your own. However, keep in mind, most companies will require a formal degree.

Work experience is also needed if applying for more senior roles. Entry level web developers are not expected to have extensive work experience.
